Alex Soop’s urban home is Calgary, Alberta and his ancestral home is the Kainai (Blood) Nation of the Blackfoot Confederacy. While striving to entertain readers with his bloodcurdling tales, Alex imaginatively implements issues that plague First Nations Peoples such as alcohol and drug abuse; systemic racism; missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls; suicide; foster care; residential school aftereffects; and over-incarceration. He also deals with Indigenous oral mythology, such as Sasquatch, Wendigo, ghostly spirits, and the afterlife.
