Almost everyone makes it to fifty these days. And so did John. When his daughters give him a ticket to Rome, he decides it's time to conquer his fear of flying once and for all. But on the plane home he loses consciousness, and in the hospital he gets devastating news: he has colon cancer. Boon Mario

Mario Boon, born and raised in Sint-Truiden (Belgium), studied graphic design and illustration in Ghent. There he met the love of his life, and still lives in Ghent today. He started his career as a freelance illustrator for the newspaper "De Morgen" and publishing house De Eenhoorn. In 1999, his first children's books and comics were published. Mario then worked in advertising for a short period, before he joined the ranks of Studio 100 as a comic book artist for two years. Since 2002, he has worked as a self-employed comic book artist and illustrator. Over the years, he has made thousands of illustrations for children's and educational books that have been published in ten countries on four continents. In recent years, he has spent his days working on "Doomsday," a comic book series that has been featured in "P-Magazine." In 2019, alongside Dr. Luc Colemont, he co-authored "John," a graphic novel on the importance of early colon cancer detection (Ballon; Europe Comics in English).

Colemont Luc

Dr. Luc Colemont was born in 1957 in Hasselt, Belgium, and studied medicine at L.U.C. University and U.A. University. He graduated as a doctor in 1982. Dr. Colemont is a gastroenterologist and worked at the Sint-Vincentius hospital in Antwerp for 28 years. In 1987, he spent a year abroad working at the Mayo Clinic (Minnesota, USA), King/Drew Medical Center (California, USA), and Klinikum der Stadt Mannheim (Germany). In 2010, he founded the nonprofit Stop Darmkanker, an association that raises awareness for intestinal cancer. Dr. Colemont is active on social media and travels around the globe to give lectures. Since early 2016, he has given more than 400 talks in 16 different countries, in Dutch, French, English, and Italian. In 2017, he was elected among the "Top 50 Belgian lifesavers" by the newspaper "De Tijd." In 2019, alongside Mario Boon, Dr. Colemont co-authored "John," a graphic novel on the importance of early colon cancer detection (Ballon; Europe Comics in English).
